U.S. auto sales slipped in June from the previous month and major automakers said there was no sign of the second-half recovery the battered industry had expected at the start of the year.

Quote
The administration's stimulus program has failed. Growth is slow and unemployment remains high. The president, his friends and advisers talk endlessly about the circumstances they inherited as a way of avoiding responsibility for the 18 months for which they are responsible.

But they want new stimulus measures—which is convincing evidence that they too recognize that the earlier measures failed. And so the U.S. was odd-man out at the G-20 meeting over the weekend, continuing to call for more government spending in the face of European resistance.

No Recovery

Aerosmith sings about a "rag-top Chevy." The B-52s "liked your Chevy Duster." The Eurythmics "took the little Chevy down to Mexico."

But now, the nickname for the iconic car brand is itself hitting the road. Chevy, er, Chevrolet, officials announced that the General Motors name plate must be referred to as "Chevrolet."

Or how about Me and my Chevy van, or drove my Chevy to the levee and the levee was dry? Chevy is a nickname. Chevy is a term of endearment chosen by the consumer and no re-branding effort will ever change that.

I still can't fully understand why GM, or should that be General Motors, would even want to try to drop the name "Chevy" from its vocabulary. Consistency in communications? What? Anyone confused by Chevy and Chevrolet? Anyone?

GM Backs Off Chevy Memo

Didn't even take a day for GM to realize that Chevy is much more loved than Chevrolet.

Quote
In the case of GM, it only took one day before the automaker issued a statement in support of the Chevy name. "Today's emotional debate over a poorly-worded memo on our use of the Chevrolet brand is a good reminder of how passionately people feel about Chevrolet," the company said. "It is a passion we share and one we do not take for granted.

After the long and tedious process of getting our OCIP and other certifications, we finally get to begin the installation of 20, Rotary A7 lifts at the new VW plant in Chattanooga. Unfortunately, there won't be any pictures of this installation, they're prohibited by VW.

In what apparently is another move motivated solely by greed, a bill in the House and Senate could force shop owners out of business.

Quote
According to the Ohio Tire and Automotive Association, the bookend bills – Ohio House (HB 364) and Ohio Senate (SB 204) – “would outlaw the sale by automobile manufacturers of original equipment automotive parts, such as tires and other automotive-related items, to non-franchised automotive-related facilities that need the original equipment automotive parts in order to meet the service and repair needs of their customers and the customers’ automobiles.”

I'm not a Ford fan but it's good to see those numbers climbing for our exports.

On Thursday, the Ford Motor Co (F), said gross sales rose 43% in March. The increase -- which mirrored (yet surpassed) a similar gain in February -- had Ford registering the highest monthly sales increase since February 1984.

Good news for Ford, and the U.S. auto industry.

GM said in a notice on Friday it was still determining how to fix the issue, which affects heavy-duty 2010 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana passenger and cargo vans. Owners should stop driving the vans, park them away from buildings and other vehicles and disconnect both battery cables, GM said.
